ARC 360

ARC 360 is an advanced 2-in-1 degreaser and descaling solution designed for marine and offshore environments. Formulated with bio-based degreasing surfactants and incorporating an effective corrosion inhibitor, ARC 360 can be utilised in manual and cleaning in place (CIP) operations, offering a safer and more effective alternative to conventional acids.

This product improves scale removal, so there is no need for a separate degreaser treatment and is also optimised to protect exposed, cleaning metal surfaces, welds and joints.

Key features of ARC 360

2-in-1 Cleaning and Descaling: Merges bio-based degreasing agents with effective descaling agents, thereby eliminating the need for a separate degreaser.

Enhanced Corrosion Protection: Features a corrosion inhibitor, designed to protect exposed metal surfaces, welds and joints throughout the cleaning process.

Environmentally Safe: The formulation is biodegradable, breaking down into natural compounds, which guarantees no adverse effects on the environment or sewage treatment facilities.

Superior Performance: More effective than most organic acids (e.g., citric) and many mineral acids (e.g., phosphoric), while being safer to handle than concentrated mineral acids.

Non-Abrasive and Material-Friendly: Suitable for use on stainless steel, galvanised steel, aluminium, and other common materials.

ARC 360 is not classified as harmful to the environment and is safe for use during normal ship operations, therefore recommended by G&O Bioreactors.

Application

Scale from various compositions can occur both in marine applications and processes. These range from carbonate, struvite and uric scales within black and grey water systems and can be encountered in process equipment via plate heat exchangers, evaporators, colours and freshwater generators.

There are two categories where acid descaling generally falls under:

  • Regular/daily maintenance application of solutions of weaker organic acids (e.g. citric or sulphamic acids)
  • Aggressive descaling with strong mineral acids (e.g. hydrochloric or phosphoric acids). Although effective in removing scale, these acids tend to be highly corrosive towards people and metal. In contrast, ARC 360 is 100% biodegradable, therefore the product is safer to use by personnel, on materials and for the environment.

Usage guidelines

Deep Cleaning Black Water Pipes

1. Operational:

● Add 200 ml of ARC 360 directly into each toilet and flush with warm water (30–40°C).

● Repeat three times daily for five days, flushing with clean warm water at the end of each day.

2. Non-operational:

● Isolate pipe sections and fill them with neat ARC 360.

● Allow to stand for 24 hours, then flush with clean water.

● Repeat with a 50% solution if necessary, and subsequently with a 25% solution for persistent scale.

Regular Maintenance

Manual Maintenance: Dilute 100–200 ml of ARC 360 in 2 litres of hot water. Pour into the toilet and flush once. Apply weekly or as per the maintenance schedule.

Automated Maintenance: Adjust dosing pumps to inject 10 ml per connected toilet.
If using LA 20 daily as a biological toilet cleaner, reduce to 5 ml per toilet.

Cleaning In Place (CIP)

● Suitable for equipment like plate heat exchangers, evaporators, and freshwater generators.

● Use a 2–30% solution (1:50 to 1:3 dilution) based on scale severity.

● Circulate the solution for 3–4 hours, then thoroughly rinse with clean water.

Optimised Scaling Efficiency

Enables optimisation through incorporating more of the ARC 360 product as alkalinity level rises, which guarantees and ensures continuous and efficient descaling.

Corrosion Protection

ARC 360 is designed with a corrosion inhibitor that also protects exposed metal surfaces, welds, joints, and areas that experience heat stress in piping systems.

This composition significantly enhances asset protection, especially in situations where regular descaling is necessary.

Environmentally Friendly

Classified as non-harmful to the environment, ARC 360 is supplied in a concentrated form that can be conveniently diluted either on-board vessels or at the point of application.

This approach not only minimises the amount of water and plastic transported globally but also promotes sustainable practices.

User Safety

The distinctive composition of ARC 360 ensures that users are protected from acid burns, rendering it considerably safer in comparison to alternative descaling products available in the market.

Features

  • More effective than most organic acids (citric, malic) and many mineral acids such as phosphoric acid.
  • Contains a powerful bio-based degreasing agent
  • Formulated with a corrosion inhibitor
  • pH increases as descaling action proceeds, so the sewage treatment system does not require balancing.
  • Breaks down to natural compounds which are totally biodegradable in a sewage treatment plant or in the environment.

Benefits

  • Wide range of applications including CIP, manual cleaning of process equipment scaled during use, such as plate heat exchangers, evaporators, coolers, black water systems.
  • Removes scale, mineral deposits, light rust, light oil.
  • Safer to handle at sea than concentrated mineral acids.
  • Not classified as harmful to environment.
  • 2-in-1 product that contains a powerful degreaser and descaler, therefore there is no need for a prior degreasing step.
  • Saves time and resources

Precautions and recommendations

✘ Not recommended for black water pipes free from scale.

✘ Avoid excessive contact time or pooling in pipework.

✘ Ensure compatibility with the vessel’s freshwater generators or desalination systems to prevent adverse reactions.

✘ Do not use on poor-quality or damaged stainless steel, particularly heavily welded or drilled sections.
