Fehmarnbelt Tunnel
The Fehmarnbelt Tunnel connecting Denmark and Germany is a “green shortcut to the future”. Estimated to save international trains and lorries a 160 km detour, will significantly reduce their CO2 emissions.
The tunnel is expected to play a significant role in Europe’s future sustainable transport network by encouraging the shift of freight transport from road to rail and thereby providing an efficient alternative to road transport.
At Gertsen & Olufsen Bioreactors, we are proud to be part of the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel project.
Our water treatment plant, on board one of the pontoons, is an essential component for ensuring correct treatment of wastewater.
On board one of the marine works pontoons (crew of 19 persons), the amount of wastewater generated can be significant. By treating the wastewater on board, the pontoon can reduce its environmental impact.
As a supplier to this project, although a small part of the bigger picture, we certainly feel a part of something grand.
By providing a water treatment plant that ensures correct and biological treatment of wastewater, we contribute to reducing the number of pollutants and contaminants that are released into the sea. This is an important step towards creating a more sustainable future for all of us.
